Triathlete starts the year with a bang

New Barnet-based triathlete Darren Treadaway has started 2010 with a bang.

After a disappointing 2009, the 30-year-old performed superbly in the latest round of the Ironman 70.3 World Series.

Treadaway, competing against fellow professionals and amateurs from all over Europe and South Africa, finished tenth, just in the prize money.

His previous best was 21st place in New Orleans last year.

The 70.3 series consists of a 1.9k swim, 90k bike ride and 21k run. In the latest race, the swim was in rough sea waters, the bike was on a hilly stretch of motorway into a strong headwind and the run was in 33 degree heat along the beach front.

Treadaway, who is an estate agent, has set his heights high this year.
